Training Details

This training provided by ERSI, Inc. is the only training course created and approved by the authors of the Environment Rating Scales. The authors of the widely used All About book series serve as faculty for the training. Participants will be taught to use the scale and given guided practice conducting assessments in child care settings. Comprehensive debriefing will follow each practice assessment, led by experienced group leaders, with the authors on hand to answer questions. Flexible training options include 3-, 4- and 5- day training courses.

The 3-day Introductory Training consists of 1 instructional day and 2 days of guided observations. The ability to add 2 additional guided observation days to the Introductory Training is available, resulting in a 5-day training. More experienced users, who do not need an introductory day, are able to sign up for the 4-day training. The prerequisite of the 4-day training is to have previously completed Introductory Training. The 4-day training consists of 4 days of guided observations, in order to obtain certification on the Environment Rating Scales

Certification is determined by achieving a required score across 3 observations. The requirement for being considered a certified reliable user of the scales is an average reliability score of 80% or higher for technical assistance level, 85% or higher for assessor level, and 90% or higher for anchor level, based on the three highest scoring observations conducted by certified ERSI trainers. Attending the training does not guarantee certification on the Environment Rating Scales.
